As an employer, or a self-employed person, you are responsible for the health and safety of your employees, clients, visitors, suppliers and the general public.

By taking the right precautions you can reduce the risks on-site and provide a safe working environment. The need for companies to understand and implement health and safety is ever present; one person is killed in construction every week and many more injured or suffer health problems. Simple measures can prevent these occurances.

So where do you start?

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the UK Government appointed H&S inspection and guidance body for work-related health, safety and illnesses. They aim to make it as easy as possile for you to make your site safe, healthy and legal.

To begin, understand your legal responsibilities, and then implement these on site by using the HSE's Health and Safety Made Simple Guide.

Are you a...? by the HSE provides tailored advice for different job roles and what you need to do to meet your legal responsibilities.

As a Member of the PDA you also have access to the NSCC's dedicated H&S Helpline, see the Expert Advice section.
