Staff at seven Crown Decorating Centres across the UK are celebrating the success of a major recycling scheme after being named as regional ‘champions’.

Earlier this year Crown Decorating Centres launched the ‘Kick Out The Can’ initiative, encouraging customers to clear out garages, sheds and cupboards and return unwanted paint to the network of more than 130 stores in the UK.

And thanks to the commitment of staff the scheme achieved record-breaking results this year with more than 8,600 containers of unwanted paint returned.

The unwanted paint collected at Crown Decorating Centres was then sent for re-processing and recycling by social enterprise Nimtech ahead of being distributed to community projects around the country in partnership with regeneration charity, Newground.

One store from each Crown Decorating Centre region has now been ‘crowned’ Kick Out The Can Champion for team members’ efforts in supporting the campaign and each has been presented with a commemorative certificate to mark their achievements.

The stores which achieved the most outstanding results across the country were Inverness, Lincoln, Derby, Southport, Plymouth, Portsmouth and Maidstone.

Paula Taylor, Marketing Manager for Crown Decorating Centres, said: “We are delighted that our team members have given their full support to the Kick Out The Can initiative.

“The top performing stores worked really hard to spread the message and collect the unwanted paint, and their support has meant that we’ve achieved record-breaking results this year.

“Kick Out The Can is a genuinely virtuous circle in helping the environment and giving back to the community. None of this would have been possible without the outstanding efforts of staff at our Crown Decorating Centres.”
