Bell Group has won Johnstone’s Trade’s Community Spirit Award for a second consecutive year.

The award, which was launched last year, is designed to recognise decorating contractors’ positive impact on the communities in which they operate.

Bell Group saw off competition from Mitie and Bagnalls to claim the coveted title at a sparkling Johnstone’s Painter of the Year ceremony at the Belfry Hotel in Sutton Coldfield.

During 2015, Bell Group went the extra mile and delivered 75 neighbourhood projects, ranging from community meetings and forums to makeover projects and open days.

A particular highlight was a three-day training course carried out in conjunction with Affinity Sutton, designed to help tackle high unemployment for young people in the Kensington area of London. The course covered all aspects of decorating, including preparing surfaces for painting, painting techniques, wallpapering and joinery skills. It provided them with new skills and an introduction to the painting and decorating industry as a career choice.

Craig Bell, operations director of Bell Group, said: “Being a family owned and operated business, providing upskilling opportunities within the communities where we work is very much a part of our core values and company culture. We are extremely proud to have worked in partnership with Johnstone’s Trade over the past year on a plethora of community initiatives. Without its support and concurrent goals to bring social value to local communities, we would not have realised half of the success achieved so far in the underprivileged areas, where our work has made a huge difference.”

Sarah Clough from Johnstone’s Trade added: “Having a positive impact on the communities in which we operate is integral to our business, so it’s fantastic for us to be able to recognise contractors who share that commitment. All three shortlisted companies have carried out excellent community work this year and should be proud of everything they have achieved. Congratulations to all of them!”
