Apprentices have taken part in a competition to demonstrate their wallpaper hanging skills.

The competition was open to all apprentices registered in the UK, the results were announced during our National Conference gala dinner.

Axel Cartmell, 20, was named Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year 2016 for the second year running.  Axel, works for Busy Hands Décor in Lytham St Annes and is also a student at the Kirkham Construction Centre in Preston, said: “I’m delighted to hold on to the title and to find out I’m the first person to win it two years in a row is a great honour.

Tom Chapman and Ben Walker were runner-ups in the Senior competition. While the competition - which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary - has been a long-standing fixture on the industry calendar, this was the first time there have been separate contests for juniors and seniors

Mitchell Scott,17, was named Junior Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year 2016.  Mitchell, works for G Heaton Painting and Decorating, Harworth and also studies at The Hub in Doncaster, said: “It feels amazing to have won the competition and to be named the Junior Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year.

The judging took place at the Hub in Doncaster.  We would like to congratulate Axel and Mitchell on being named top wallpaper apprentices
